Been using this grill for 5-years, overall I like it BUT it has a few serious short comings1- The grill grate design is great at preventing flare-ups BUT hard to clean and will eventually rust. I bought a 2nd one (OEM) which also rusted out, cost me $80, so the 3rd one I bought was solid cast iron cost me $70.2- Poor Temperature control. - Large airspace in the back hinge of the dome lid can not be closed or adjusted, therefore the back portion of the grill will always run significantly hotter. Also there is no air flow control for the vent holes around the bottom of the kettle. And the dome air vent is located in the center of the dome, very poor design if you want a hot and warm zone.3- The distance between charcoal grate and the cooking grill grate is about 4", This is fantastic for fast grilling and searing, but very poor for indirect cooking or overall temperature control, basically this grill runs HOT, HOT, HOT!4- The temperature thermometer is a joke, it's off by 50 degrees.5- Legs are very wobbly, aka spaghetti legs.So why I have I kept this grill for 5 years?1- Runs super hot, especially with the after market cast iron grates. I get fantastic sear on my steaks, burgers and chicken. Great crust on the outside, very juicy on the inside. (BTW people who like reverse searing should seek help from a therapist)2- Uses less charcoal, since the cooking grates sit about 4-inches above the charcoal, I use about 1/3 less charcoal.3-Speed- From cold grill to dinner on my table I'm done in 20-30min and I don't feel as bad about wasting as much charcoal as a Weber.so if you're looking for a multi-purpose grill that can be used a whole afternoon during a kids party, can double as a smoker, with great temperature control, hard pass on this one. But if you want lots of heat, speed, great sear and use less charcoal, then this is it.
